Special Session: Reflective Leadership - Creating a Transformative Environment Where Others Want to Belong Supported by the Scholarship of Reflective Practice Task Force
Learning Objective #1: Discover the transformative potential from the integration of reflective practice techniques into nursing leadership and the potential of reflective practice for reframing the nursing profession
Learning Objective #2: Analyze elements of a nurturing environment for nurses that encourages reflection as renewal, learning, and modification of practice
This session will consider how reflective practice can serve as a framework for nurse leaders in their intrapersonal and interpersonal work with self and others. Grounded in principles of reflective practice, environments that facilitate caring and thoughtful interactions with others are instrumental in positive practice outcomes. Participants will co-create examples of dialogue to build mutual context among leaders and those they facilitate. Discussion will focus on consideration of how this dialogue encourages nurses with their creativity and autonomy to expand personal leadership and influence in the workplace. Participants will analyze ways the process of reflection encourages use of critical reasoning, knowledge inquiry, and negotiation in managing complex health care situations. Leaders grounded in reflective practice encourage openness, flexibility, and efficiency in solving substantive health related problems, with the outcome goal of professional renewal, satisfaction, and retention.
