Qualitative data analysis can be attempted by the use of computers and software packages. The data analysis component of a phenomenological study entitled The Essential Structure of the Lived Experience of Women Seeking Health Care in a Jail Environment was completed by using NVivo, a software package developed specifically for qualitative data analysis. Principles of the Colaizzi method of data analysis were incorporated into the software package to produce the thematic structure and the exhaustive description of the qualitative study.
