Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to define the alternative & complementary that has Significant role in pain reduction in MS patients. |
Ms is one of the common autoimmune diseases with incidence of 0.1% per whole world population. Pain is one clinical presentations that recent studies show absence of relevant management in pain reduction.Pain relief is the major component of nursing Intervention.Massage & aromatherapy is one the alternative & complementary that has Significant role in pain reduction. Aim of this quasi-experimental study was comparing the effect of massage & aromatherapy on Ms related pain .
Matherials & Methods: In this investigation 80 ms patient selected with purpose based approach .The inclusion criteria was women between 20-40 years old that don't have massage contraindication ,presence of pain in lumbar & distal extremities , no history of allergy , headache & respiratory diseases , no use of complementary therapy. Patients randomly divide into two groups : massage & aromatherapy group (that received aromatic menthol massage). Characters of pain was recorded & compared before & after of massage.
Findings: findings showed that before intervention ,demographic & pain features were same in both groups(p<0.05). After intervention ,the quality of pain redundancy was decreased that this reduction was meaningful in aromatherapy group. severity of pain, in both group , had meaningful difference (p<0.001) before & after intervention. Also redundancy of location of pain was decreased in both group (p<0.001). Temporal pattern of pain was constant before & after intervention in both groups.(p=1.00)
Conclusion: Findings show both interventions have significant effect on characteristics of pain that was more in aromatherapy group. Therefore it's necessary to do more extensive studies in fields of complementary therapy for improving physical & mental well- being.
