Learning Objective #1: describe the effect of self– care teaching by Video tape on decreasing of problems in hemodialysis patients.
Learning Objective #2: describe the effect of self– care teaching by Video tape on quality of life in hemodialysis patients.

Introduction: In patients who have a chronic disease such as end stage renal disease (ESRD) for which cure is not a realistic goal, maximizing functioning and well-being should be a primary objective of care..

Objective: determine the effect of self–care educational package programs on problems and quality of life of dialysis patients.

Method: This study was a Quasi-Experimental research in one group( pre test- post test) accomplished in the educational hospitals of medical science universities in Tehran. The samples were chosen on the basis of a non-randomized sampling. Each patient was assessed two times with a time interval of two weeks before starting the dialysis by a questionnaire about educational requirement, SF36 and a checklist. In order to validate the results data, the laboratory variables were analyzed on the average two months prior to the education. After that researcher with supervisor and advisor designed and performed an educational program on the basis of existing problems and this peogram was recorded. This movie was shown to the patients during one month once a week while they were on the dialysis. After education, the laboratory variables, quality of life two times after education were analyzed and also the checklist were studied in two stages with a time interval of two weeks .

Results: findings showed that there was a significant decrease in serum urea (p= 0/020), s uric acid(p= 0/002) , s p (p= 0/002), interdialytic weight gain (p= 0/000), systolic blood pressure (p= 0/045) diastolic blood pressure(p= 0/004), edema (p= 0/000), skin itching (p= 0/000), local vascular problems (p= 0/031) and Increase Ca (p= 0/000) and improving the quality of life (p= 0/002).

Conclusion: Performing the self– care educational package programs had a positive influence on decreasing the problems and improving the quality of life of dialysis patients.
