Learning Objective #1: Our study results might help medical provider realize the psychological condition of tested patients and their physiological change. |
Learning Objective #2: The exercise intervention in respiratory failure patients were important to assist patients for improving the psychological condition and reducing the medical cost of patient care. |
BackgroundFThe aim of this study was to investigate physiological change during the training program of exercise in respiratory failure patients. MethodsFSubjects was selected from respiratory failure patients with clear conscious in Taiwan. Thirty six subjects were equally divided into two groups either tested or controlled groups. Tested patients were trained to receive the activity of sit-up. Controlled patients stayed in the bed. In the study, expert validity was used to assess the content validity and reliability associated with a Cronbach's
a.826. .Data were collected and analyzed by descriptive, correlative, and interfential analyses using the SPSS/windows 14.0 statistical software. ResultsFOur results showed that the cardio-pulmonary functions of patients were significantly improved in 4 different time points. Psychological condition of dyspnea was also significant difference (t=-2.06, p<.05). In comparison the tested and controlled groups, for patients receiving the exercise of training process the hospitalization day was 6 days shorter and the cost decreased about NT$130,000(t=-4.18, p<.001). Age, ventilator-carried day and intratube types could explain 26.1% variance in prediction. Our study results might help medical provider realize the psychological condition of tested patients and their physiological change. ConclusionsFThe exercise intervention in respiratory failure patients were important to assist patients for improving the psychological condition and reducing the medical cost of patient care.
