Memoing is an important strategy in all approaches to research and is most often associated with grounded theory. This paper will discuss the significance of memoing in health research generally and grounded theory specifically. The use of memoing to enhance methodological, analytical and procedural processes will be discussed. Practical issues in relation to memo writing will also be explored. The value of memoing as a critical element of the research process will be demonstrated through the use of exemplars drawn from one particular research study into the impact of post-registration studies on nurses in Malaysian Borneo.
