Learning Objective #1: The learner will be able to know an effectiveness of preparing children to an interavenous drip. | |||
Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to know a comparison research of behavious between an intervention group and control group. |
Research Method: Participants were 4 to 6 year-old children who received an IV drip at a pediatric outpatient ward at a general hospital. Before the IV drip was carried out,the intervention group used a set containing a doll and IV drip to explain things such as the need for an IV drip and the procedure.Data was gathered before the drip began until the end of the drip by recording the children's words and videotaping the children's expressions and behaviores.Using an action observation scale, scores were given to the children's behavior in the treatment room and when the IV drip was implemented. Both groups were then compared. Results and Considerations:There were 11 paticipants in the intervention group and 10 in the control group. The average total score on the action observation scale for the treatment room was 43.27 points. The control group scored 34.60 points. For the IV dirp, the average total score for the intervention group was 40.55 points, and 31.90 points for the control group. The T test results showed a significant difference between the two groups(P < 0.05).Giving an explanation prior to carrying out an IV drip led to a trusiting relationship between the children and nurses, the children were able to express their own opinions.
