Challenges of Teaching Electronic Health Documentation

Nursing faculty have become increasingly aware of the strengths and limitations of electronic documentation systems as hospitals and home care setting are slowly adopting these systems. Nursing students must be taught how to use this technology to increase their competency in health-related technology-based information systems. This presentation will explore the challenges that nursing faculty encounted as they made electronic health documentation skills a component of the college laboratory educational experience and how the integration of the United States Veterans Adminstration electronic medical record system was adapted into the college laboratory experience.
