Utilizing an Evidence-Based, Interdisciplinary Practice Framework with Multiple Healthcare Information Systems Promotes Global Impact and Research Opportunities
Learning Objective #1: The learner will be able to identify key leverage areas in today’s healthcare environment to advance evidence-based practice through interdisciplinary integration and intentionally designed technology.
Learning Objective #2: The learner will be able to describe global approaches to measure and share research and outcome data when using a common practice framework with technology.
This symposium will focus on trends in today’s global healthcare environment that create key leverage points for interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based practice. The presenters will share how a growing international healthcare consortium has created global collaborative approaches in creating a common clinical practice framework that supports practice and content interoperability that is critical to healthcare technology as well as patient and clinician safety. The framework is grounded in integrated scopes of practice and a wealth of evidence-based clinical tools and resources to support learning and work environments that are intentionally designed within healthcare information systems. The history of advancing nursing with technology will be shared with an emphasis of shifting from old ways to new ways of thinking that is critical to create local and global impact with evidence-based practice and technology. A key focus of this symposium will be on the nature of the relationships between nurses, physicians, and all allied health disciplines and how one discipline alone cannot be accountable for creating and sustaining evidence-based practice in healthcare settings. We will explore the role of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and linkage to evidence-based order sets, as well as shared evidence-based clinical documentation amongst all team members that is patient focused. The role of Collaborative Learning Communities (CLCs) with diverse interdisciplinary team members from multiple care settings will be explored as a successful methodology to co-develop the best design and tools within a clinical practice framework that is common to all at the point-of-care. The presenters will share how evidence is uniquely integrated and updated on a regular basis. Examples of the significant impact from over 230 university, community and rural settings will be shared. Current and potential global research opportunities will also be shared, including the alignment to several national initiatives.
