Academia and Service Leaders Commit to Form a Partnership in Order to Bring Evidence-Based Practice to the Point of Care by Implementing Technology
Learning Objective #1: Identify the transformation needed in thinking, practice and relationships for service and academic leaders as they partnered to implement and support evidence-based practice.
Learning Objective #2: Articulate the strategies to support clinicians, faculty and students for fundamental changes in operation, infrastructures, curriculum and learning principles essential to live evidence-based practice.
This symposium will address the outcomes of a joint effort with Academia and Service Leadership to implement technology in order to transform practice and create the best places to give and receive care. The focus of this session will be on the accountability to implement and sustain evidence-based practaice at the point of care. The School and the Hospital have had a strong partnership for many years and the hospital provided the clinical laboratory for student learning. No one knows better than faculty the variance in practice at the point of care. The faculty and hospital staff share in the accountability of student learning in every aspect of thought and workflow. The often spoken reality is "this is the way it is taught but this is how it is in the real world." It is the reminder of the work needed to reach best practices and stop variance. The commitment to bridge the gap and create consistent, safe, quality services for both those who give and receive care led the Service Leadership and Faculty on a journey to transform practice and implement evidence-based practice with the support of technology. The reality of that commitment brought a cascade of learning and transformation of thinking, practice and relationships for leadership, staff, faculty and students.
