Learning Objective 2: the systematical individual education group performed higher scores of knowledge and behavior than the traditional individual education proup after the health education for 3-5 weeks.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effect two individual health education programs to promote knowledge and behavior of foot self-care for patient with Diabetes Mellitus. A two-group quasi-experimental design and purposive sampling were employed. The subjects were volunteers from the admitted diabetes patients of a medical center in Taichung. Each program consisted of 55 subjects. The comparative group received individual education adopted from “Diabetes Mellitus foot self-care handbook”; the experimental group received individual education adapted from “Diabetes Mellitus foot self-care handbook” depending on the questionnaire of foot self-care knowledge and behavior. The data was processed and analyzed by SAS. The results showed that the subjects of experimental group performed higher scores of both knowledge and behavior than the control group after the health education for 5 to 7 days and 3 to 5 weeks. In consequence, the systematical individual health program is highly recommended in clinical application.
