Learning Objective 1: to acquire clinical and administration skills AND knowledge

Learning Objective 2: combines the need for communication and an interpersonal attitude.

Introduction: The health system creates a challenge and a need to acquire clinical and administration skills, knowledge that combines the need for communication and an interpersonal attitude. In order to develop and implement a culture that cherishes Patient Safety, we created a core curriculum for staff nurses.

Method: The work shop focuses on safety and integrated theoretical and practical experience that was taken from adverse events; patient complains and nurses reports.

Throughout 2007 we formulated 5 work shops conducting open discussion describing real events selected by the Risk Management Unit. During the meetings the objectives were illustrated as scenarios, presentation and simulations teaching via simulated patients were performed by trained actors.

During each work shop, surveys on knowledge, attitude and the value of risk management, quality and patient safety, were evaluated.

Discussion: The real innovation was in the decision to deal with the gap between senior nurse's skills and nurses at the bed site in order of lessen the gap, we generated the interactive and unique learning process. The Inclusion of senior nurses as tutors was an opportunity to provide comprehensive knowledge for staff nurses and team members on their daily work and routine.

In the future we plan to adapt and improve this work shop in accordance with the results of previous work shops, and the need defined by nurses who are at the bed side. We aim to establish an on going learning process across all of the nursing staff of the medical center.

We believe that it can be "tailor-made" and used by other medical centers or health organization.
