Using information systems (IS) in nursing decrease errors, save time, provide easy and quick access to patient information, and support clinical decision making. Nursing students have experience in using e-mail, blackboard, and dealing with online courses. However, there is no information about their experience in using IS in their clinical training that contributes to our understanding of how they realize IS benefits to their work that also could facilitate their transition as nurses into the clinical practice. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the process of student nurses' use of IS and IS outcomes (expected benefits and satisfaction). This study will be guided by Donabedian's and Holzemer & Reilly's conceptual framework. The study will use a descriptive correlational cross-sectional design, with an online survey methodology and a convenience sample of Ohio student nurses who will be invited to fill the study questionnaire online. Student Nurses have to use at least one IS in their clinical practice while assigned to provide direct patient care. Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study will help to predict and examine the effect of IS use among student nurses on their benefit expectation of the system and their satisfaction which will facilitate their use of the IS as future nurses.
