The Effective Program of Improving Parents Preterm Home Care

Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to know that the effect of parents' preterm infant home caring program.

Background: The preterm infant birth rate has been increasing recently. The questions of premature baby home care by parents have raised because of the different standards of discharged education from nurses. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to establish and evaluate the effectiveness of the parents' preterm infant home caring program. Methods: The Program of Preterm Home Care (PPHC) was developed by the panel discussion of experienced nurses and contained16 teaching care plans of preterm infant home care. All the 30 nurses of sick baby room were taught and well discussed about the PPHC before application. The sample consists of 55 parents of preterm infant in a medical center hospital. Result: The results of the study were:1. improving the nurses' skills and knowledge of caring parent needs of preterm infants' home care, the score is increasing from 56.8 to 100; 2. empowering parents to manage the needs of their preterm infant after discharged from hospital, the problems of telephone call by parents were dismissed from 18.8% to 0%. Conclusion: The Program of Preterm Home Care (PPHC) was established as an effective guideline which empowers parents to manage their own needs and the needs of their neonates after discharge from the hospital.
