Learning Objective 1: The learners will be able to identify and understand the foreign nursing students' experience and their challenges and issues.
Learning Objective 2: The learners will be able to apply the conceptual model for telementoring system by foreign nursing students in the multicultural community.
Methods: English-language literature published from 1990 to 2008 was searched on MEDLINE, PUBMED, and CINAHL using the terms foreign nursing students, international nursing students, telementoring system, online mentoring system, and related terms.
Results: Even if there's no research about telementoring system for foreign nursing students even nursing students. 121 titles were screened. Current literature supported that nurses with the cultural knowledge to meet the health care needs of ethnic minority immigrants (or travelers) were requried in the multicultural community. Many factors, especially language were associated with foreign nursing students' experiences, their perception, and their learning challenge. In this study, strategies to improve their learning experiences in the multicultural community were applied to telementoring system. Telementoring system is to engage foreign nurses in becoming on-line mentors for area foreign nursing school and to provide assistance to mentor/student teams through their experience.
Conclusion: Although many schools of nursing are offering nursing program to foreign born students, there has been minimal research that supports a link between what foreign nursing students expects and experiences in our multicultural community. Telementoring system for foreign nursing students could support that meet their learning needs.
