Description/Overview: Although the Institute of Medicine has set the goal that, by 2020, ninety percent of healthcare decisions will be evidence-based, the majority of nurses and other health professionals are not consistently implementing evidence-based practice (EBP). Furthermore, of those systems that launch system-wide efforts to advance evidence-based care, sustainability of EBP is challenging to maintain.
Therefore, this workshop will provide key strategies for implementing and sustaining EBP in healthcare settings. The important role of generating internal evidence to improve quality of care through outcomes management projects will be highlighted. In addition, examples from the field of EBP implementation projects that improved quality of care and patient outcomes will be discussed. Finally, the role of EBP mentors as an essential strategy for sustaining EBP will be highlighted.
