The most frequent post-operative complications included stenosis, obstruction, infection, bleeding, AV Shunt limb edema, hemangioma and steal syndrome. A program about the care knowledge for fistula surgery patients and their care givers to reduce post-operative complications and improve nursing quality is demanded.
The study adapted the One Group Pretest Posttest Design, During the study period, 30 patients were evaluated, and integrity of post surgery education and nursing care were 72.7%. Among the nursing care and education items, functional assessment of arterior-venous fistula, wound care and patients education was not adequate , and the AV shunt assessment and treatment were not accuracy. Therefore, A guiding program for post AV fistula surgery including the nursing care, wound care, patient education, assessment method for post-operative and the promotion of education and training was developed.
After the implantation of guiding program for post AV shunt surgery care, the integrity of post surgery education and nursing care increased to 100% (+ 27.3%). The patient satisfaction with nursing care and education increased from 78.0% to 94.3%(+16.3%). guiding program for post AV shunt surgery care not only to teached patients how to relieve the symptoms of post-operative discomfort, but also enhanced patients' understanding of treatment regimens and reduced anxiety.
