The Use of Technology to Foster and Sustain Connections in the Community and Beyond

Connections among students and faculty in online education have been debated for years. However, learner preferences and economic constraints have perpetuated prevalence of online learning. Educators have the responsibility to strive to provide connection with and among their students. This presentation will provide examples of technologies to virtually connect students. In addition, the benefits and challenges of using virtual meeting technologies will be discussed. Finally the impact of using three distinct technologies (Skype, Breeze Meeting, and Wimba) will be addressed.

1.    Describe some advantages and disadvantages of selected virtual meeting technologies.

2.    Discuss the impact of the use virtual meeting technology to connect students in an online program.
