The Clinical Practice Experience of Normal Spontaneous Delivery Among University Nursing Students in Taiwan

Learning Objective 1: The learner will be able to understand the experience of nursing students participating in normal spontaneous delivery (NSD) in Taiwan.

Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to understand the stressors on nursing students who have participated in NSD.

Purpose:

The aim of this research to thoroughly explore the experience of nursing students participating in normal spontaneous delivery (NSD) in Taiwan.

Methods:

The participants recruited using purposive sampling.   Four males and four females agreed to participant in this study within one month of termination of the obstetrics clinical practice.  Data were gathered using semi-structured face-to-face in-depth interviews and then wrote down what the subject said to analyze and categorize by means of Colaizzi phenomenological methodology.

Results:  

Results revealed five categories as follows: attempting to equip the expert role, considerations and needs of the participant, placing themselves in others position, feedback of an in-depth experience, and construction of reflection and behavior mode.

Conclusion:

The findings would help in unveiling the impact and effects on nursing students who have participated in NSD, and serves as a reference for nursing educationists when designing courses.
