The Geriatric Nurse Leadership Academy (GNLA) serves as a mechanism for Nurse Fellows to engage in increasing knowledge about the health care delivery system and leadership in the policy arena. Several policy related learning opportunities are provided that is initiated by providing the opportunity to increase knowledge of key agencies in the health care delivery system and examination of the role of each.  Other activities as they relate specifically to aging includes field experiences either at the local, state or national level in two major policy activities: transforming  health care within the context of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing report released October, 2010.  A presentation of selected fellow activities in each of these areas and the impact realized will be presented. Inter-professional activities are emphasized and examples of opportunities engaging other disciplines are examined.
