Validation of the Nursing Diagnosis Ineffective Breathing Pattern on the Intensive Care Unit for Adult Patients

Learning Objective 1: The learner will able to see, how we validated nursing diagnosis ineffective breathing pattern on the Intensive Care Unit in the Czech Republic.

Learning Objective 2: The learner will find out similar problems with choosing experts for validation of nursing diagnosis.

Purpose: The nursing diagnosis ineffective breathing pattern is usually diagnosed by registered nurses in intensive care units. The aim of project is to implement the content validity of diagnostic elements (defining characteristics and related factors) for the nursing diagnosis ineffective breathing pattern (00032).

Methods: For the purpose of assessing the significance of diagnostic elements, the Fehring model of validation of nursing diagnoses is used. Correlation analysis examined the dependency between the defining characteristics.

Results: The study was conducted in the months of May to November 2012 in five selected hospitals of the Czech Republic in intensive care units. Experts from intensive care units were evaluating the significance of diagnostic elements. The process of the statistical data collection is still uneder way.

Conclusion: Nursing diagnoses lead to an increased visibility of and uniformly described nursing clinical practice, which is becoming more measurable and understandable.
