Learning Objective 1: The learner will be able to gain the knowledge of 12 meridians.

Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to have a positive attitude on meridian status of human body is needed to fulfill early health condition detection.

Based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, acupoints (Yuan-points) in 12 regular meridians reflects the biophysical condition of individuals. A study focus on the investigation of meridians status of individuals can add new knowledge to the field and help health related professional to create appropriate preventive interventions for diabetic patients.

This study aimed to use a non-invasive device as an assessment tool for meridian status evaluation. 150 diabetic patients in southern part of Taiwan participated in this study. The meridian status of the 12 Yuan acupoints was measured for each study subject. The voltages of Yuan acupoints of 12 regular meridians were records, and plotted for pattern diagnosis.

The findings revealed that the meridian status of the participants represented their clinical conditions. Meridian status of study population indicated a certain pattern based on their level of Hemoglobulin A1c and complicated diseases. Specifically, the status of spleen, kidney and liver meridians reflects the level of Hemoglobulin A1c directly. The wider difference of two side (left subtract right) meridian status reflects the higher level of Hemoglobulin A1c.

In conclusion, non-invasive meridian status evaluation device provides a digital objective values for health status of individuals. This is newly developed technology not just only add new knowledge to TCM theory but also influence the nursing practice. The electro-meridian status evaluation device is a tool to indicate the health status of individuals and to develop a further health preventive program.
