Description/Overview: Nursing research activities is growing expecially in the Asian Region in countries such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, and the Phillipines. Nurses are expanding their role in the development of evidence-based health care practice and policy. Peer review nursing journals with impact factors have also been developed in the Asian Region.
Professor Sally Chan is a pioneer in research related to mental health nursing in Hong Kong and Singapore. She developed and maintained a program of scholarship with a particular focus in community, perinatal and geriatric mental health. A unique feature of her research is the involvement of clients and family in the design and conduct of studies whenever possible as well as collaboration and promotion of international inter-institutional partnerships. In this presentation, Sally will share her experience on the use of a research framework to guide the development of research programs. She will discuss how the outcome of her work has made an impact on service and policy development.
