Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility of using nursing volume control innovation in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever patient at pediatric ward

Methods:

This descriptive research were applied 9 products of nursing volume control innovation for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever that we developed in the 1st phase research. These innovations composed of: 1) flow chart, 2) 4-colored flag, 3) disease surveillance warning plate, 4) dengue brochure, 5) Tourniquet test result sheet, 6) ORS force sheet, 7) intravenous sticker scaled, 8) intravenous fluid leveling paper roller, and 9) IV sheet. This set of nursing care volume control innovation for DHF was applied with purposive sampling 80 Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever patients who the aged <15 years and the results of laboratory blood tests was confirmed. We applied in pediatric ward, Mahasarakham hospital, which one of secondary level hospital in North East Thailand, for 11 months in the year 2016. The assessors were all staff ward members comprised of 10 physicians, 8 registered nurses. The other assessors were 30 caregivers who selected by purposive sampling. The research instrument was questionnaires, which comprised of a form for feasibility assessment and a form for satisfaction assessment. In addition, we also performed a clinical outcome in a number of volume overload patient and the number of death case. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean and standard deviation.

Results:

The result revealed that improvement from using these innovations, the number of volume overload patient was decrease 60 % and mortality rate was zero. Regarding to Innovations feasibility and satisfaction of assessors, the physicians overall opinion was rated in high level, the registered nurses’ and the caregivers’ overall opinions were rated in highest level.

Conclusion:

These nursing volume control innovations for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever were sufficient to attain practice standards that were applied to maintain continuity of patient with Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever care during hospitalization.
