Purpose:

This study aims to explore the involvement of nurses in the training of mental health care on cognition, attitude and behavior. With intervention of education and training, it is expected to change employees' attitudes and beliefs, and to enhance employees' knowledge, skills and core competencies so as to enhance the professional knowledge and skills of clinical nursing staff as well as the performance level of employees and organizations. Therefore, work efficiency and nursing quality will be improved.

Methods:

This is a cross-sectional study, collecting personal information by using questionnaires. Effective sample: 51, scored by SPSS 20.0 statistical software analysis.

Results:

This study is based on paired-sample t test to participate in the performance of the members in their cognition, attitude and skills. The latter score is significantly better than the former score (t = 16.5; p < .001). The analysis covariance of independent samples expresses that there is no significant difference in various titles, advanced levels, and seniority in “cognitive, attitude and skills.”

If a "fixed factor has been involved in the relevant courses in the past", the pre-test of the "cognition, attitude, and skill" is a covariate, the post-test is a dependent variable. There are significant differences (F=4.8; df =1,48; p =.03<.05) in the test results. Those who participated in the related activities in the past have a significantly higher scores on cognitive, attitude and skills than those who have not participate.

Conclusion:

With the intervention of education and training through mental health nurses, not only can the "cognition, attitude and skills" of nursing staff be effectively improved but also the work confidence, execution ability, sense of accomplishment and value of nursing staff in clinical care will be increased. Insidiously, sense of work identity, belongingness and cohesion from nursing staff will be relatively improved. It will help the hospital's performance and contribution. Therefore, it is recommended to increase the number of education and training so that each nursing staff has the opportunity to receive education and training. In this way, the professional practice ability of nursing staff will be enhanced. These results might serve as a basis and a reference for sustained psychiatric mental health nursing.
