Learning Objective #1: Identify strategies for the registered nursing student, registered nurse, and nursing instructor to enhance and foster integration of evidence-based practice
Learning Objective #2: Describe utilization of evidence-based practice in the clinical setting involving the registered nursing student, registered nurse, and clinical instructor

Evidence based practice (EBP) is a basis for nurses' decisions, actions, and interactions with clients. . If nurses are striving for excellence in their patient care it is important that they practice based upon EBP versus tradition. For much of nursing practice evidence does exist supporting one intervention over another. Skills to evaluate the evidence are necessary to ensure that the appropriate application of EBP occurs. There is a paucity of literature that addresses meaningful methods of EBP integration involving registered nursing students in the health care setting. It is critical for registered nurses and clinical instructors to foster and value EBP with registered nursing students to ensure that EBP is an expected norm and competency in the next generation of nurses. Clinical case studies involving registered nursing students, registered nurses, and clinical instructors utilization of evidence based practice are described. Integration of EBP is not always straightforward. Strategies for positive integration of EBP, specifically application of nursing research, are provided from the perspective of a practicing registered nurse, a third year registered nursing student and a clinical instructor. A registered nursing student, practicing nurse and clinical instructor can work together to ensure that EBP is valued and utilized in the health care setting.
