Creating a Research Agenda Within a Community-Based Faculty Practice
Kathleen Kenney, MS, PNP, Division of Nursing, New York University, New York, NY, USA
Learning Objective #1: Identify methods for working with communities to complete community-based health care research
Learning Objective #2: Identify issues within community health that need to be researched in an effort to improve the overall health of communities

New York University's Division of Nursing has developed and begun to implement a community based health prevention program in a targeted school district in Brooklyn, NY. The goals of this project include the creation and implementation of preventative health education programs, provision of primary and episodic health care to a targeted community and creating and implementing research aimed at gaining a better understanding of how to improve health on a community based level. This presentation will provide an overview of the challenges involved in the creation and implementation of a research agenda within this project. Issues that will be addressed are those concerning gaining support from the community to participate in the research, identifying what information from the health care record can be used for research, identifying the unique needs of the community that correlate with our research agenda and incorporating graduate students into the research process.
