Learning Objective 1: Learn how a tea promotes education and networking accross generations in the local chapter community.
Learning Objective 2: Learn how a tea provides a deeper appreciation for nursing and service.
This poster describes an innovative way to attract nurse participation across the generations for education and networking. The Zeta Phi Chapter at Wright State Miami Valley College of Nursing sponsored a Nightingale Tea. Board and chapter members volunteered to sponsor a table. Each table hostess provided their finest china and cooking for the three courses during the tea. Tea cakes and fruit and other lovely items were provided. During each course, a speaker presented material as part of the CEU offering. For this first chapter tea, Florence Nightintgale's writings on mentoring were explored followed by presentions by faculty and a new graduate nurse on how to mentor and prevent incivility in nursing. The Zeta Phi Chapter sought and received support from the local community for the tea which included flowers and books which were given to participants at the end of the evening as well as a celebration cake and location to hold the tea for the 70+ persons who attended. The opportunities for networking and discussion were nothing short of fabulous and the nursing community so very much appreciated the service to them by the Zeta Phi Chapter. Attendees evaluations were full of comments such as " I felt cared for", " this was so much more than I ever expected", " I met some wonderful people" and " please have this again". As a result this will be an annual May program for the local nursing community to bring together all generations of nurses to appreciate the profession of nursing.
