Learning Objective 1: The learner will be able to discuss how tenacity, persistence, and resolve can be used to revitalize organizational life and value.

Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to explain how to implement the best available evidence when attempting to revitalize a nonoperational chapter.

Purpose:

The purpose of any organization is to focus on the Mission and Goals of that organization.

Background:

The Sigma Theta Tau, Mu Omega Chapter was chartered on April 5, 1992. Initially, the Chapter flourished, but later, meetings and educational functions were non-existent. The chapter remained idle other than for the yearly induction of new members. Four years ago, a core group of members decided to revitalize the organization. Officers were chosen and the activities began.

Description of the Project:

Meetings are held in a centralized location. At least two major activities are offered each year. Student, graduate, and community members have been recruited and are taking an active role. A concerted effort was put forth by the officers to increase active membership and to provide social, professional, and global offerings to the members as well as to the community of nurses and lay people. Scholarship, service and learning are enhanced by the professional offerings provided by Mu Omega, as well as by the scholarships and research grants provided to students who are members of Mu Omega Chapter.

Outcome:

Our goal was to bring new life to the Mu Omega Chapter by offering activities to Mu Omega members and to the community as well. New members have been recruited and the chapter has been revitalized. We have reinstated the Mu Omega Chapter to an active presence in STTI.

Conclusions:

Since the revitalization project began, we have increased the numbers of those who are taking active interest and leadership responsibility roles. We have provided at least two major activities each year. We are mentoring those interested in wanting to become new officers and provide them with information that can take them to a global level. We are in the process of merging with Purdue University North Central to become a Chapter-at-Large.
