Guiding North America Region 2 Members into the 43^rd Biennium

Abstract

The 42^nd Biennial Convention meeting of Region 2 members was a transition point when the past met present. The regional coordinator changed hands. At the same time, the members present stepped forward to continue the work of influencing Region 2 members and each other’s authentic passion for Sigma Theta Tau International’s new mission, to advance world health and celebrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. It was clear that Region 2 members value empowerment, knowledge, responsibility, and commitment to Sigma Theta Tau International and each other. With 27 Chapters located in the Southwestern United States coming together once again for the 43^rd Biennium, Region 2 committee members formed to begin their work once again. By facilitating empowerment of each member who feels important and valued, this forges ENERGY for the work of Region 2 members as a whole. To provide continuity, several experienced Region 2 committee members volunteered to continue in their roles. Three aspects are presented that describe the transformative strategies that empower Region 2 members: (1) brainstorming ideas and sharing information to successfully develop and publish our Spring 2014 newsletter, (2) creating autonomy through understanding our values, purpose, and identifying each other’s gifts and passion to advance the world health. Philanthropic programs such as Water.org and global health care opportunities in Santa Maria de Jesus, Antiqua, Guatemala Health Care Clinica are our starting point, and (3) Region 2 Committee members are self-directed and responsible attending to their physical, mental, emotional, social, and moral being as we embark on advancing world health. Our goal is to harness our creative energy as a committee in order to provide effective leadership and support to our chapter leaders and members. This will be accomplished by describing strategies to effectively address leadership successes and challenges. This goal is fostered by technology that enhances communication.
