Description/Overview: As we implement the Affordable Care Act, nurses and other health professionals are being asked to improve value by providing higher quality care at lower cost. Where does health professions education fall in this quest for the triple aim? Can we link our educational interventions to clinical outcomes? How might we balance learner-centered and patient-centered assessments in nursing education research? What assumptions must we make to claim causal relationships between educational innovations, patient safety and quality of care? What are the benefits and challenges of directing our educational research toward its impact on clinical outcomes? What are the consequences if we fail to meet this challenge?
