| Learning Objective #2: Describe two methodological issues and two measurement issues in translation research |
The purpose of this paper is to overview the state of the science in translation research from a global perspective, and to discuss methodological and measurement issues in testing interventions for translating research into practice. Terms used in translation research will be discussed with exemplars to illustrate each of these terms. Methods used in translation research, and methodological issues encountered in an AHRQ funded, multisite translation research program will be described. These issues include type and dosage of TRIP interventions, unit of analysis (e.g. patient, unit, organization), and use of self-report data as study endpoints. Strategies used to address these issues are described. Measurement issues in TRIP studies will be outlined with suggestions for addressing each. Future directions for translation research will be set forth.
