Objective: This study evaluated the CD-ROM educational program in sexual violence prevention for middle school students.

Design: A randomized control-group pretest-posttest design was used.

Population, Sample, Setting, Year: The 1st year middle school Students were only selected, because students in the 2nd and 3th year may watch the CD-ROM anywhere in the last year. A total of 78 students(at pretest) and 78 students(at posttest) were participated and 78 students were randomly assigned to either an experimental(n=39) or control(n=39) group. Both groups were pre-tested for the levels of knowledge and attitude about sexual abuse prevention prior to intervention. Data were collected from 10 March to 28 March in 2003.

Methods: A CD-ROM titled, Educational Program for the Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Violence was used for intervention. The instrument used in this study was the Knowledge and Attitude of sexual Abuse Questionnaire (KASVQ) developed by the researchers. The KASVQ includes the important concepts and facts about sexual abuse and sexual abuse prevention. The instrument contains 32 true-false items to measure the knowledge levels and 20 items, 4-Likert scale, to measure the attitude levels of students about sexual abuse.

Findings: In the experimental group, the knowledge and attitude level increased significantly from pretest to post test. In the control group, attitude level increased significantly from the pretest to posttest, while the knowledge level was not increased significantly from the pretest to posttest. The knowledge level in the experimental group was higher than those in the control group significantly.

Conclusion: There was a significant increase in knowledge in the experimental group using CD-ROM educational program in sexual violence prevention for middle school students.

Implication: This CD-ROM program could help school nurse to teach students effectively. Continuous education using a CD-ROM educational program in the sexual violence prevention are needed to change attitude.
