Methods: The study was performed at a 1389-bed medical center in Taiwan. The training program lasted for 12 months, and it's design was based on staff nurses' needs. The strategy was teaching nurses conduct nursing research step-by-step and learning by doing. 39 registered staff nurse attend the training program. According to personal needs, they were divided into 15 teams. A guest research professor and the nurses work together in hospital for 2 days monthly. The first day was methodology class lecture, and this professor for coursework panel discussion mentored each team on the second day. Indicators used for evaluating the effectiveness such as present at class rate and homework-completion rate was considered as process indicators, were simple-group time series design. Numbers of research completed, numbers of research published, and research findings application rate as outcome indicators, were simple-group post-test design. The staff nurse's self- efficiency was simple-group pre-post test design.
Result: The result showed that 13 reports were completed at the end of this program. 4 of them have been given a result submitted to oral presentation and 4 of them given poster presentation on Nursing Research Presentation Conference of Taiwan Nurses Association. 2 of them were accepted by professional journal. The findings revealed that hospital based training program has a significant impact on nurses' self-efficacy related to conducting nursing research.
Conclusions: This is the first hospital-based program to demonstrate significant increase in nursing research .The success of this program has led to adoption of the model by other hospitals in Taiwan.
