Plenary I: Global Warming: Changing the Climate for Implementing EBP
Learning Objective #1: Explore implementation of evidence into practice from a global perspective.
Learning Objective #2: Describe the different strategies that are being or have been used to increase the level of use of evidence in healthcare.
Global warming is an issue that affects nations world-wide and refers to increases in environmental temperature which in turn causes changes in climate. Through the use of this analogy, the changes occurring internationally in the climate of implementing evidence into practice will be explored. Just like the scientists who have to look for clues to help them to understand how the world works, those of us who research, implement and evaluate evidence for practice also need to know more about what is going on in the world and use various mechanisms to achieve this. A wealth of evidence is out but getting it used in practice is perhaps the major challenge for 2005.We need to know what is currently happening (ie current climate), as well as what happened previously, in order to evaluate how far global warming has changed the EBP environment and to determine what must be put into place for further sustained changes to occur.
