Getting Evidence Into Practice: The Basics and Beyond
Learning Objective #1: Identify key factors in implementing evidence-based practice and begin to plan appropriate implementation strategies
Learning Objective #2: Describe how implementation efforts might be evaluated
Getting evidence into practice is a messy and complex undertaking. This symposium will highlight some of the challenges and present some suggestions for those in the business of trying to make evidence-based practice a reality. The session will be structured around three key concepts: evidence, context, and facilitation. It will include the following within each theme: evidence -- identifying sources of evidence for best practice and providing an up-to-date perspective on how to evaluate evidence for use in practice; context -- outlining key factors that affect successful implementation of evidence into practice and tools and approaches to 'diagnosing' context; and facilitation -- consideration of how to incorporate patients in decision-making and providing some direction on strategies for the successful implementation of evidence into practice. Additionally, we will outline how you might decide on measures for success and how to evaluate your implementation efforts. We will aim to make this session as interactive as possible, and therefore, encourage attendees to 'bring' their own examples to help illustrate the points being made.
