Cathy L. Emeis, RN, MS, CNM, School of Nursing, School of Nursing, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver, CO, USA

Traditionally the phenomenon of unintended pregnancy has been examined from an epidemiological perspective. This presentation presents two phases of a study on the outcomes of women with unintended pregnancy. A qualitative study was conducted to explore women’s lived experience of unintended pregnancy. A second study approach will be discussed that explores the implications of these finding for women’s health policy. Family planning programs that are accessible, affordable, and “woman-friendly” are needed to better support women’s contraceptive needs Implications for evidenced based and holistic praxis for research in nursing will be discussed.
