Learning Objective #1: gain knowledge about primary nursing management for Neurosurgical patients
Learning Objective #2: gain knowledge of outcomes of primary nursing

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to compare the patients’ satisfaction of nursing service before and after using primary nursing for neurosurgical patients.  Study subjects consisted of 60 neurosurgical patients at Surgical Unit, Ramathibodi hospital.  The subjects were divided into 3 groups: 2 control groups and an experimental group.  The subjects in each group were matched by sex and age.  Study instruments were primary nursing for neurosurgical patients program, a manual of primary nursing for neurosurgical patients, Primary Nursing Care Knowledge Questionnaire (PNCKQ), Nursing Care of Neurosurgical Patients’ Knowledge Questionnaire (NCNPKQ), Primary Nursing Care Observation (PNCO) and Patients’ Satisfaction of Nursing Service Questionnaire (PSNSQ).  All instruments were tested for content validity.  The reliability of PNCKQ and NCNPKQ were 1 and the reliability of PNCO and PSNSQ were .90 and .93, respectively. All data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation and t-test.
Major finding was as follows:
1. The total  mean scores of patients’ satisfaction of nursing service in control group and experimental group were not different.
2. Patients in experimental group felt more satisfied with self-introduction, continuum of nursing service, preparation for emergency care from primary nurses and discharge planning than those of  patients in control group.
