Tapping into the Role of the Nurse Educator; A Hand's on Approach
Tara L. Narby, RN, BSN, Rheumatology and Immunology, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, USA and Theresa Louise Puckett, RN, MSN, CPNP, The Breen School of Nursing, Ursuline College, Pepper Pike, OH, USA.
Learning Objective #1: Identify need for nurse educator career development through mentoring processes.
Learning Objective #2: Identify mechanisms for nurse educator career path development.

Abstract: The nursing shortage has provided the opportunity for experienced clinical nurses to choose the career path of a nurse educator.  Years of nursing experience provides clinical expertise, without necessarily providing a foundation in pedagogy. The Chiron Mentorship Program through Sigma Theta Tau International was used as a model for developing and advancing into the role of a nurse educator through active mentoring and hands on participation.
