Translating the COPE Program Into Clinical Practice: The
Challenges of Research Implementation

Although there are a multitude of studies being conducted every year, it takes 17 years on average to translate research findings into clinical practice. The outcome of clinical research is not fully realized until it is used by health professionals and patients who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the evidence. This presentation will describe the barriers and facilitators that can be encountered while translating an evidence-based intervention program into clinical practice. Barriers and facilitators to program implementation will be discussed, including parent, staff, environmental, institutional and financial issues. In addition, strategies to overcome potential barriers will be highlighted.
