A Model for How Mentorship Can Advance EBP in Clinical & Academic Settings
Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk, PhD, RN, CPNP, FAAN, Arizona State University College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation, Phoenix, AZ, USA

Although there are several conceptual models to guide system wide implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) in healthcare organizations, there is a paucity of evidence to support specific EBP implementation strategies in these models. The purpose of this presentation will be to describe the EBP mentor as a key component of the ARCC (Advancing Research and Clinical practice through close Collaboration) model, a system-wide implementation model to advance and sustain EBP in healthcare institutions. Evidence gathered to support the role of the EBP mentor in enhancing nurses’ beliefs and implementation of EBP will be presented. Finally, the success of an established EBP mentorship immersion program as a strategy to develop EBP mentors will be described.
