Joyce S. Baker, BS, PNP, Pediatrics, Syracuse Community Health Center, Syracuse, NY, USA
Learning Objective #1: Review background of Pediatric Palliative Care practices and knowledge base in the CNY arena |
Learning Objective #2: Share results of findings from a quantitative descriptive study performed in the CNY area. |
A poster presentation will represent the work completed on the 2006 thesis that discussed the function of pediatric palliative care in the CNY area. This project demonstrated that Palliative care and respite programs need to be developed to enable all healthcare providers the tools they need to provide intensive symptom management that promotes the welfare of children living with life-threatening or terminal conditions. Furthermore, at diagnosis of a life-threatening or terminal condition, it is important to offer an integrated model of palliative care that continues throughout the course of illness, regardless of the unforseen outcome.
