A Community of Practice to Develop Post Graduate Nursing Education
Learning Objective #1: 1. Understanding the benefits of international communities of practice.
Learning Objective #2: 2. Identify barriers and supports for such communities of practice.
In 2004 the Tau Lambda Chapter-at-large were approached by members in two countries (Tanzania and Kenya) in which no post-graduate programmes were available at the time. The Chapter embarked on a process of establishing at least one such programme per country. The community of practice that came together to make this possible, consists of six universities in Southern Africa and four Universities in East Africa. Over the two years that the project has been evolving, all the people involved has moved to new levels of understanding, collaboration and support. The symposium will outline the process, the management and financial structure and principles, and describe the benefits and barriers from the perspectives of both Southern and Eastern partners.
