Description/Overview: This presentation is aimed at nurses and health educators interested in the creation and use of scientifically valid creative techniques applied to children’s health education in school context. The edutherapeutic method developed in consecutive researches (Rodrigues, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008) plays an important role in technical education and psychopedagogic children’s health education. The Health Magic Box is one of the creative techniques currently under validation in the edutherapeutic method context, applied by nurses. To describe the scientific fundaments of the method "Health Magic Box" and demonstrate its construction and use process, are the main aims of this presentation. Construction method, validation and application principles: through a Drawing / writing form (Rodrigues, 2005), 25 children 6 to 12 years old, within a first term class, have expressed their points of view on factors of health; the drawing’s content was analysed resulting in various health factors categories; with the children’s support 30 drawings which they found more significant and appealing to discuss health issues (signification, multisuggestion) were selected from the several categories; the drawings pasted into small cards were reviewed by the nurse and the teacher who formed groups of 10 cards, having the drawing in one side and a relevant health issue on the other side, suggested by the drawing (scientific evidence), the ten cards were inserted in a box creatively decorated and structured for the entry and exit of the cards with a pre-defined logical sequence (hierarchy and intent); each child withdrew a card each at a time from the box, showed the design, read the question and opened the discussion within a defined period of time (questioning); the nurse mediated the discussion (adequacy, edutherapeutic return); after discussing the issues a pattern synthesis was obtained (dispositional patterns) which allowed to establish a plan of health promotion’s change that children propose to perform over a period of time, until the next session (proaction, mutual compromise). This creative technique explores expressive languages, involving the children, teacher, parents and health educator nurse.
Learner Objective #1: The learner will be able to know the scientific fundaments of the Health Magic Box (HMB)in the Edutherapeutic Method context
Learner Objective #2: The learner will be able to understand the creation, validation and application process of the technique (HMB), applied to children health education in school context
