Abstract
Following an agreement to teach and lead a study abroad program for a high level research nursing education program, the Scholar identified a desire for mentorship. Previous international research and practice experience were strengths of the scholar Three project goals were agreed upon: navigate and succeed in high-level research-intensive academic environment, lead teams that enhance international development via the International Council of Nurses Education Network, and develop the school of nursing study abroad program. Project activities addressed these goals. Evaluation focused on scholar progression, meeting ICN-EN membership goals, and successful completion of UCONN study abroad programs. Evaluation results in all three goals areas, demonstrate successful outcomes. Scholar is completing new research related to factors that enhance the development of cultural sensitivity in study abroad students. ICN-EN online discussion forum membership grew by more than 200%, representing people from over 80 countries. UCONN School of Nursing has completed three semester-long study abroad programs, with students demonstrating satisfaction with residential situation, courses, and cultural learning experiences. Mentorship has provided the scholar with greatly needed support for success in an academic environment, and scholar will continue engagement with international studies, research, and ICN-EN.
