Description/Overview: Evidence based practice can be viewed as difficult for bedside nurses to understand and implement. This symposium presents a new model, Evidence-Based Practice Improvement (EBPI), for improving patient care and provides examples of EBPI projects that successfully used this model. The model utilizes components of evidence based practice (EBP) and performance or practice improvement (PI) to address patient care problems with clinical evidence and attention to care process. The first part of the presentation describes the evolution of the EBPI model. Three subsequent presentations demonstrate the implementation of the model and outcomes of staff nurse led EBPI projects in the operating room, newborn nursery, and general medical surgical area.
Learner Objective #1: Discuss the utilization of the Evidence Based Practice Improvement model to improve patient care.
Learner Objective #2: Describe methods to facilitate staff nurse participation in the Evidence Based Practice Improvement process
