Learning Objective 1: The learner will be able to describe the process and challenges of creating a Wiki space.

Learning Objective 2: The learner will be able to identify the potential benefits of using a Wiki page to promote the use of technolgy in education.

Wiki U, a collaborative space to create and share resources, was developed for a large home care agency in an urban area as a project for a faculty development program regarding teaching with technology. This interactive online learning community targets selected Educators, Distinguished Lecturers, Nurse Preceptors, and Gerontology Certified Nurses. Leveraging current technology, Wiki U will provide ongoing continuing education by providing resources and tools for skills and knowledge enhancements. As there are differing levels of knowledge around technology, Wiki U will provide just in time, quick and easy access to current and relevant information to access at the users’ pace. The project included educating the creators on wikis, content selection and site development. Focus groups were conducted to test ease of site usage and determine interest among targeted clinicians through surveys and educational webinars. Guidelines were developed to provide a consistent approach for users to access and contribute current and relevant information to the Wiki. Our intent is to involve Wiki U members in an ongoing process of creation and collaboration that constantly changes the website landscape to meet the evolving needs of its members .The efforts undertaken to develop and implement a wiki have resulted in development of the initial pages and links of Wiki U. Surveys conducted pre and post webinar indicate that participants familiarity with a Wiki increased from 47.8% to 82.4%. Future directions for the Wiki U project include disseminating information for use via instructional modules and guidelines, inclusion of other health care professionals and initiation of blogs for continuous feedback and information sharing.
