Learning Objective 1: To assess the effectiveness of a computer assisted instruction(CAI)on students' testing scores compared to an educator directed teaching

Learning Objective 2: To determine whether students satisfied with the use of a CAI as a new learning medium

Teaching -learning method has been gradually shifted from educator-directed teaching to student-centered learning atmosphere. Owning to the education paradigm shift, distance learning, on-line instruction, web-based instruction, or computer assisted instruction has been developed and tested for its advantages and disadvantages as alternative teaching-learning resources.  Computer assisted instruction (CAI) is one of the alternative mediums that has been increasingly utilized due to technology advancement and students unprecedented skills in computer literacy. It has been used to enhance students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills.  Many studies have demonstrated that CAI could be used as an effective learning medium. It can be used either a teaching-learning supplement or replacing a classroom teaching method.

A community assessment DVD/CAI project has been developed to test its effectiveness on students’ cognition and satisfaction.  The findings can be used to determine whether using CAI as a learning supplement or replacing a traditional classroom teaching.  This project is a joint collaboration among Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Department of Public Health Nursing, Mahidol University, and a local community affiliated with faculty of nursing.  The project intended to produce a new teaching-learning medium that foster students’ knowledge and confidence before   practicing their community health nursing practicum in the real community.  A community assessment DVD/CAI is an initiative project focusing on producing an alternative teaching learning medium for department of public health nursing.  The project scholar got support from various collaborators.  According to the NFLA objectives, the scholar has been able to exercise her leadership experience through the working with her mentors, faculty members, school administrative team, community stakeholders and community board. The project is challenging. It gave a scholar’s opportunities to share her vision with all stakeholders, encourage others to work as a team, and feeling fun, proud, and happy when the project is done.
