The purposes of this longitudinal study were determined the symptom severity and coping strategies for patients within one week after receiving lung cancer surgery. A total of 70 patients were recruited. The Numerical Symptom Severity Rating Scale A Jalowiec Coping Scale-Taiwanese were used, and data were collected to the surgery and the first, second, fourth, and sixth day post surgery. Descriptive statistics, t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), repeated measured ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation. The results showed symptom severity keeping on light to mild level, and increased at fourth, and sixth day post surgery. The patient use problem-solving strategy more than emotional strategy. The results of suggest that health care professionals should pay more attention and care on patients receiving lung cancer surgery at Day 4 and Day 6.
