Model Evolution to Midrange Theory of Home Care Guiding Evidenced Practice
Carol E. Smith, RN, PhD, School of Nursing, University of Kansas, Kansas City, KS, USA and Ubolrat Piamjariyakul, PhD, RN, School of Nursing, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS, USA.
Learning Objective #1: Discuss model-generated nursing interventions and implication for use of validation processes in developing nursing knowledge.
Learning Objective #2: List how to conduct practice verification models and evidenced-based nursing interventions following the 7 replicated studies of Caregiving effectiveness model across multiple chronically ill populations.

This poster presents data of a clinically relevant home care model used for testing of multiple evidence-based nursing interventions. The model has evolved into a midrange theory based on multiple statistical replications. Across different populations, the theory guided interventions consistently improved patient condition, treatment side-effects and quality of life outcomes. The conceptual critiques and statistical procedures used to test and refine the Caregiving Effectiveness Model are presented.  Derivation of model-generated nursing interventions and implications for use of these validation processes in developing nursing interventions is illustrated.  Limitations of the model and interventions are summarized and finally recommendations for future research are given.
